The slogan is frequently displayed on banners and posters, often accompanied by the "Syrian Refugees Welcome" sign, depicted on the right. In acts of illegal vandalism, both have also been sprayed on walls or public property. The reason for using both in general is to signalize to Syrian refugees a friendly attitude of welcoming, who often expect Europeans to be cold or ignorant. Therefore, both the slogan and the icon are kept as simple as possible, allowing everyone to understand their core message. == Discrepancy from official statements == It is important to understand that the actions of voluntary support where the "Syrian Refugees Welcome" slogan and sign are used, are (mostly) organized and conducted by private persons and that their principles of action may therefore oppose to governmental ones. For this reason, a Syrian refugee of the Syrian Civil War might be greeted welcomingly by "Syrian Refugees Welcome" activists and, as in many cases, free food and clothing, but in the end not be welcomed at all in the country he or she came to because of governmental policies. The slogan has therefore been criticised as being misleading.
